Select a material model to launch the closed cycle daemon.

PC Model

Click to Launch Applet (Takes a Few Seconds)
The working substance is a phase change (PC) fluid. That is, it can exist as a sub-cooled liquid, superheated  vapor, or as a mixture of saturated liquid and vapor. Example: Steam is executing a closed cycle in a piston-cylinder device.
Gases: PG Model Click to Launch Applet (Takes a Few Seconds) Obeys the ideal gas equation (pv=RT). Moreover, the specific heats  are assumed constant. A perfect gas (PG) is a simplified ideal gas. Example: Cold air standard Otto or Diesel cycle with specific heats assumed constant.
IG Model Click to Launch Applet (Takes a Few Seconds) Obeys the ideal gas equation (pv=RT). Specific heats are temperature dependent; thus, the IG model is more accurate than the PG model. Example: Air standard Otto cycle with variable specific heats for better accuracy.
n-IG Model Click to Launch Applet (Takes a Few Seconds) Create a mixture of upto sixty ideal gases, and use the resulting mixture as the working fluid of the closed cycle.
Diesel Cycle
A closed cycle is a cyclic sequence of processes executed by a closed system (a trapped gas). For more examples of closed-cycles, visit VT.Chapter-7 pages.
